Tips and Techniques Tuesdays – 12/18/12

A question that comes up often is, how do I keep the colors in my quilts from bleeding, running, fading, etc. I found a wonderful article that refers to dying your own fabrics, but the information also pertains to fabric that is already dyed. If you don’t have time to read the whole article, the product it recommends is Retayne, which is a color fixative for commercially dyed cotton, linen and rayon fabrics that bleed. Use in the washing machine or treat by hand washing in pan on stove with 140F water. Test fabric before washing. Not recommended for energy efficient front loading or top loading machines.
