I cannot wait for Spring Quilt Market!!! Attending this Checker Open House and the Schoolhouse sessions, meeting celebrities in our quilting world, seeing new products and learning how to demonstrate them is so exciting! Diane and I were geeked the whole time, sitting through presentations by Sue Hausman on hosting successful events and Todd Gibson on strategic planning. We met Kathy Seal from QP Quilts and visited her quilt shop in Tecumseh, Michigan, on our way home!
The Quilt Patch is an awesome shop! And there is a wonderful stitchery shop in the same building, so really, take a road trip one day! I bought the most wonderful batik jelly roll from The Quilt Patch, and a fun quilt-themed stitchery pattern from Timeless Stitches. The ladies working at The Quilt Patch were fun to talk to and extremely helpful, and we enjoyed laughing and sharing with the owner of Timeless Stitches.
Back to Checker – we met and spoke with Alex Anderson and Judy Niemeyer. I learned so much from Karen Montgomery that I will take to heart. What I learned from Karen, however, was more from the seminar I attended prior to the open house. That seminar, by Laurie Harsh of The Fabric Shop Network (the trade association for independent quilt and fabric retailers) has given me more help and more inspiration than anything.
I have a lot of work ahead of me, planning and implementing new strategies to make River Place Quilt & Sew an even better place for you to shop. Thank you all for your patronage – past and future!!
