FIGURING YARDAGE FOR SASHING

Draw a layout of your blocks, including the sashing between each block and around the outside.

What size are your blocks?……………………………………………………….. _______

How many blocks do you have?………………………………………………… _______

What is the finished width of your sashing?…………………………………. _______

Minus the bottom row, how many blocks will you have?……………….. _______

Multiply the previous number by the width of your blocks……………. _______

Divide the previous number by 40; round up to next whole number. _______

Multiply the previous number by the width of your sashing (unfinished size)      (A)………………………………………………………………………………………. _______

Count the number of rows. Multiply by the height of your blocks….. _______

Count the number of rows, subtract one, and multiply by finished size of sashing…………………………………………………………………………………. _______

Add the previous two numbers………………………………………………… _______

Multiply by number of columns, plus one………………………………….. _______

Divide previous number by 40; round up to next whole numbe……. _______

Multiply previous number by width of sashing to get number of inches of fabric    (B)……………………………………………………………………………………….. _______

What is the width of the quilt with sashing?…………………………………. _______

Multiply this number by 2………………………………………………………… _______

Number of strips: divide previous number by 40, round up to next whole number…………………………………………………………………………………. _______

Multiply previous number by width of sashing to get number of inches of fabric     (C)………………………………………………………………………………………… _______

Add numbers from A, B, and C above…………………………………………. _______

Divide previous number by 36” to get yardage needed for sashing….. _______
