History

River Place Quilt & Sew traces its roots back to the summer of 2006, when it was called “River Place Mercantile.” The store was, at that time, a consignment shop located in the back of a coffee house. One corner of the shop was filled with around 100 bolts of fabric, a few notions and patterns, and a small assortment of Mettler thread.

By Christmas that year, it was clear that the Mercantile was outgrowing its home. When a Janome sewing machine dealership was added to the mix, the store moved to its current location in the Riverview Plaza.

Margaret Hall has been the sole owner of River Place Mercantile, LLC, since March of 2009. The store has less consignment items, and has changed its name to River Place Quilt & Sew, LLC, to reflect its focus on sewing machines, fabrics, patterns, notions, and quilting and sewing classes.

Margaret and her husband purchased a building at 2000 River Road in East China Township, a little over a mile south of River Place’s current location. After extensive remodeling of the new building, River Place Quilt & Sew has moved into its new location as of April 2011.
